Could you be our next hero open source developer?

As we have previously mentioned, functionalities like Wi-Fi, NFC, GPS, audio, and full device encryption can now be built from open source code for devices supported in our AOSP for Xperia project. This is thanks to the efforts from you open source community developers. You are all heroes to us, and to acknowledge your work, we want to salute those of you who contribute most to our AOSP projects.

To do this, we are going to select a hero open source developer at the end of every second month. The hero open source developer will be the person who has submitted most accepted commits to our projects on the SonyXperiaDev GitHub, during the two preceding months. The hero open source developer will be presented on Developer World, and will receive a device from Sony as a reward.

To take part and potentially become our next hero open source developer, simply keep doing what you’re already doing so great: – develop and submit your commits to our kernel and device projects on the SonyXperiaDev GitHub.

Anyone submitting to our open source projects can be selected as hero open source developer, except for Sony Mobile partners, or employees working with Developer World. To learn more about how to participate, visit the Hero open source developers page. Here, you’ll also see which projects are included and get the detailed terms and conditions of the programme.

The recognition starts now
Taking the two first months of 2015 in account, we’re going to kick-start this by selecting the first hero open source developer on the 1st of March. If you want to qualify, get started by checking out the AOSP for Xperia section to find out more about the initiative and our different AOSP for Xperia projects. Then select a project you want to contribute to, head over to the SonyXperiaDev GitHub, fork the code and get going. If you have any comments or suggestions, please drop us a line below.

Good luck! And don’t forget to commit your improvements.
