The Vision Sensing Processor (VSP) is Sony's "sensor fusion" chip. This means the VSP combines data from multiple sensors to produce better results - finding information that could not be obtained from just one sensor.

The VSP chip is currently available as part of the VSP Developer Kit for prototyping, making it easy to build and test your own sensor fusion solutions.

The VSP enables fast, simultaneous processing of data from up to 12 vision sensors. It is capable of intelligent visual data processing to help you create smart, power-efficient visual data solutions in a wide range of edge computing applications.

Sony software development tools and SDK complete the VSP as a development platform. Whether you want to build an autonomous drone, factory robotics, or a deep-learning platform, you can prototype your ideas with the VSP Developer Kit.

Features of the Vision Sensing Processor platform

Sensor fusion chip

The Vision Sensor Processor can "fuse" or combine data from multiple sensor sources such as: stereo cameras, time-of-flight, and IMU data devices. This means it produces better results than can be obtained by devices that can use only one sensor.

Vision hardware accelerators

The VSP is built with several imaging/vision hardware accelerators to enable fast processing of the data from multiple sensors.

Vision-sensing DSPs

The VSP has three vision-sensing Digital Signal Processors (DSPs) dedicated to imaging and vision-sensing signal processing. This makes the VSP suitable demanding applications such as robotics, and drones, and Artificial Intelligence (AI).

Ultra low-power processing

The VSP is built to be ultra low-power. This makes it suitable for applications where your device needs to be away from a power source for long periods. It also makes it suitable (in chip form) for low form-factor devices.

Time of Flight (ToF) technology

The Vision Sensing Processor supports ToF sensors, which are used to create highly accurate depth maps in real time. This technology is suited for such areas as automated control and collision avoidance systems.
