This project is no longer being supported and will not get any further updates.

For a detailed walk-through of all the steps involved in installing the Sony Add-on SDK, and to get started developing, click the links and follow the instructions below:

  1. Install the Sony Add-on SDK from the Android SDK Manager.*
  2. Install Sony’s device definitions.
  3. Create an AVD.
  4. Download the Sony Add-on SDK documentation kit to learn more about the SDK and the APIs.

How to download and install the Sony Add-on SDK from the Android SDK Manager

  1. Start the Android SDK Manager in Eclipse by navigating to Windows > Android SDK Manager.

  2. The Android SDK Manager wizard will open.

  3. In the Android SDK Manager menu, navigate to Tools > Manage Add-on Sites ….

  4. Click the tab for User Defined Sites.

  5. Select New on the displayed dialog.

  6. Enter the following URL in the Add Add-on Site URL dialog, then click OK:
    http://dl.developer.sony.com/wearables/sdks/Sony_Add-on_SDK/Sony-Add-on-SDK.xml

  7. The Add-on Sites will display the User-Defined Sites. Click Close.

  8. Confirm that the Sort by property at the bottom has API Level selected. Expand the category Android 4.2.2 (API 19), and select SDK Platform (if not installed already) and Sony Add-on SDK.

  9. Click Install N packages. In the choose packages dialogue box that appears, accept the license agreements and click install.

  10. Congratulations, the Sony Add-on SDK is now installed!  You can now exit the Android SDK Manager.

How to install Sony’s device definitions

  1. In the Eclipse menu, navigate to Window > Android SDK Manager.

  2. In the list of available packages in Android SDK Manager wizard, locate and open the Extras folder.

  3. Tick the checkbox for Sony DeviceProfiles, then click Install 1 package…

  4. The Sony device definitions are now installed! You can now find the newly installed definitions by clicking Tools > Manage AVDs…

How to create an AVD

Before starting, make sure you are running Android SDK Tools version 21.1 or above.

  1. In the Eclipse menu, navigate to Window > Android Virtual Device Manager.

  2. Click the Device Definitions tab.

  3. Scroll to the device you want to emulate and select it. Then click the Create AVD… button.

  4. The Create new Android Virtual Device (AVD) window opens.

  5. In the Target field, select Sony Add-on SDK 3.0 (Sony) and click OK.

  6. This launches the Android Virtual Device Manager dialog. Select the AVD that you created using the Device Definitions, and click the Start… button.

  7. The Starting Android Emulator dialog opens and the AVD will start.
