We’re excited to announce the release of a public SDK, allowing developers to create AR effects for use with Sony’s AR effect app on Xperia devices. The SDK should be available by the end of the month, and is being showcased this week at Vision Summit in Hollywood, USA.
With this SDK, developers can explore the potential of AR effects, and help users become more creative with their own reality – allowing them to overlay objects and effects in real-time as they capture photos.
Sony’s AR effect app was first introduced on Sony’s Xperia Z1 and has been made available on the successive generations of Xperia devices ever since. The app has been successful amongst Xperia users, with substantial downloads of both paid and free AR effects from Google Play.
The AR effect app uses Sony’s Face Recognition Technology and SmartAR Technology to place objects onto real life images, in real-time. To be able to create AR effects, for use with the Sony AR effect app, developers will need to have basic Android development skills as well as some knowledge of the Unity 3D game engine.
Once the SDK is released, you will have access to all the relevant information you need, including tutorials and a getting started guide up on the Sony Developer World website.
If you’re one of the lucky developers attending Vision Summit 2016, make sure to come and talk to us at our booth and find out about the potential of creating AR effects for Xperia™ devices. Also don’t miss the talk on AR technology and using the AR effect SDK, being given by Robert McCain, our Senior Developer Engineer.
Stayed tuned to Developer World for more information about the AR effect SDK.
